 Car bomb
Five people, including two female bombers, died on Sunday while 46 others were injured after terrorists launched a twin bomb attack on a GSM market in Potiskum, Yobe State.

Suicide bombers had a day earlier planted a bomb in a vehicle which exploded at a police station in the town, killing a police inspector and others while many suffered varying degree of injuries.

The attacked market is located close to the Brema Primary School along the Mohammed Idrissa Way in the heart of the troubled commercial town.

According to eyewitnesses, two female suicide bombers had arrived in the market on a tricycle with one going into the market while the other waited in the tricycle.
It was learnt that as the two who detonated the explosive on them simultaneously thus casing pandemonium in the area.

By the time the dust settled, five people, including the bombers, had laid dead with their bodies shattered into pieces.

A trader at the market, Sani Abdu Potiskum, told Reuters that the bombers were about 10 years old.
“I saw their dead bodies. They are two young girls of about 10 years of age … you only see the plaited hair and part of the upper torso,” the trader said.

Another witness, who accompanied the ambulances taking casualties to the hospital, said three people, excluding the bombers, were killed and at least 46 people were wounded.

The town was hit by a suicide bomber in November when at least 48 people, mainly pupils, were killed during a school assembly. On Saturday, a bomb exploded at a police station in Potiskum.
Sunday’s explosions came a day after a bomb strapped to a girl aged around 10 years old exploded in a busy market place in the city of Maiduguri, killing at least 16 people and injuring more than 20, security sources said.

Explosion rocks Rivers APC office

The bombed All Progressives Congress secretariat in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State... on Sunday
Political violence raged in parts of the country on Sunday with an explosion rocking the All Progressives Congress secretariat in Abam Ama, Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Just as the news of the explosion hit Port Harcourt, another round of violence was recorded in Rumueme, Obio/Akpor LGA where four APC members were machetted by persons believed to be political thugs.
The Rivers incidents came less than 24 hours after two campaign buses   of President Goodluck were set ablaze by some youths at the Mangu Street junction in the Jos North LGA of Plateau State.

The Rev4mation's World learnt that unidentified persons threw dynamite into   the three-storey APC secretariat at about 3.14am which caused extensive damage to the ground floor.

The APC Chairman in the LGA, Mr. Christian Asifamak, who narrated the incident,   said that   his office was the worst hit as the entire wall was pulled down by the impact of the explosion.
“In the early hours of   Sunday, some unknown group of persons threw dynamite into our party secretariat, he explained, lamenting that the   attack was   “a deliberate provocation by our opponents, the Peoples Democratic Party, to draw the APC into a battle that could destabilise our LGA.”

He warned that   “the APC in Okrika would not allow Okrika to become a hotbed of crises as the PDP would wish.”
Asifamak claimed that   the PDP had resorted to violence because of its rejection by the Okrika for failing to bring     development to their LGA.

He added, “Till now the East-West Road through which we access our community has been left abandoned by a PDP-led Federal Government while Governor Chibuike Amaechi who is not an Okrika man built a ring road in Okrika and also rebuilt the portion of the federal road that links the LGA to the Port Harcourt refinery.

“We however wish to warn our brothers in the PDP to remember that the land of Okrika has been known to defend itself and its people against aggression and that any Okrika person who brings crisis to the land answers for it.”
Also, the governorship candidate of the APC in the state, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, who was in the community to assess the extent of the damage,   expressed worry that the PDP   and its supporters had initiated a pattern of attacks on the people of the state.

He said, “The Police and other security agencies should tackle the excesses of the opposition party. This development is very sad and it is unfortunate that some persons in the society have decided to choose this path.
“If you have noticed, there has been a pattern of violence lately. On   January 6, when we had our presidential rally at the Adokiye Amesiemeka Stadium, you would have noted that some of our people who were coming from Abonnema, Degema and Asari-Toru axis were attacked around Sa-Ama junction.
“The persons who were coming from Kaani and Gokana were attacked around Saakpenwa junction. Some other groups who were coming for the same rally were attacked around Elele. All fingers point to the other political party, the PDP.

“We have raised these issues with the Commissioner of Police; we have raised it with the security agencies. Not much has been done after then. Aside from that, you must also have observed a trend. A few days ago, they were in Abonnema to campaign; a faction of PDP fought with another faction of the PDP and two persons were confirmed dead.”

When contacted, the   state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, said   the police were already investigating the   explosion.
“The command is aware of the incident (in Okrika). Information at my disposal is sketchy. However, investigation has commenced,” Ahmad said.
In Rumueme,   three out of the four injured APC members were rushed to the Kesley Harrison Hospital in Port Harcourt for treatment.

The APC leader in Obio/Akpor LGA and a House of Representatives candidate, Chief Tony Okocha,   said that a Warri chief   who was in Rumueme for the   APC rally on Sunday,   was machetted several times.
Okocha, who   personally drove the three injured person to the hospital, lamented that the whereabouts of the chief was unknown.

He warned   in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents that members of the APC were almost exhausting their patience over the continued attack on them by persons believed to be PDP thugs.
Okocha urged the state Police command to invite the leaders of the political parties to a meeting and warn them against violence.

Police station burnt as soldiers arrest 13
Meanwhile, 13 people have been arrested in Jos in connection with the burning down of   Jonathan’s campaign buses on Saturday.
A police post   was however set ablaze by some people   protesting the arrests by the soldiers attached to the Special Task Force on security in Jos.
The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Nasiru Oki, told our correspondent in Jos     that those arrested had yet to be handed over to the police.

The   Governor, Jonah Jang,   condemned the burning of the campaign buses, vowing that security agencies would apprehend more of those behind the incident
Jang,   at a church service to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance and Emblem Appeal week,   said, “Plateau is PDP and the people of the state would continue to support the party. The PDP shall form the next Federal Government; the, PDP will win the governorship election in Plateau State in 2015.”

The Acting Chairman of the PDP in the state, Mr. Raymond Dabo,   said   that despite the burning of the two campaign buses, President Goodluck Jonathan and the party’s governorship candidate, Mr. Gyang Pwajok, would win   the February elections.

Dabo described the incident as unfortunate, adding that the party had advised its   supporters to remain calm and focused.

Also on Sunday, the   Presidency said the burning of the vehicles had further demonstrated the level of   desperation by the opposition and their plot to intimidate   Nigerians out of the political space.
It added in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Prof. Rufai   Alkali,   that would not deter Jonathan from ensuring that free and fair elections were conducted nationwide next month.

The statement read in part, “We have observed a dangerous trend of politically- motivated violence unleashed on innocent Nigerians by supporters of those who have shown desperation to assume political power at all costs.
“While we are not surprised by acts of desperation already shown by these people who have no articulate agenda for nation building, we are amazed at how quickly they are willing to manifest their evil intentions on our dear country.
“The incidence in Jos, Plateau State where our campaign vehicles were torched by irate youth underscores the need for vigilance as we progress towards the General Elections. This criminal behaviour, which is meant to intimidate others and deny them their freedom of choice, stands condemned.

“The leaders whose utterances and conduct have encouraged this kind of behaviour must bear full responsibility for this. With the way things are going, it seems the ultimate agenda of making Nigeria ungovernable as prophesied by these politicians is underway.

“We declare unequivocally that no Nigerian citizen should be prevented from campaigning in any part of the country. We therefore call on the law enforcement Agencies to protect and guarantee the safety of every Nigerian legitimately canvassing for votes all over Nigeria.’’

Re: Where’s Mrs Buhari?

Fomer Head of State, Maj-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (retd.)
I have just read Abimbola Adelakun’s piece on the above title. I want to believe that the writer is just looking for faults where none exists. If Buhari forgets to remove his cap at an interdenominational service, even if during a church service, ushers should have told him respectfully to remove his cap. If he refuses, then it becomes an issue. Then, the issue of whether or not he goes out with his wife should not be blown beyond proportion. The reason being that this is a personal issue and the man’s religious tenets might not favour such a practice.

When the late Alhaji Ahmadu Bello implored his contemporaries in the nationalist struggle to understand their differences-cultural diversity of this nation, but not merely know it, this is what he meant. And I want the writer to note this also. Buhari’s photo with his family will show him a good family man but that is not enough. The issues at hand are beyond this; how we are going to solve the myriad of problems facing this nation should be the priority. Let us try and showcase the good sides of our candidates irrespective of ethnic/religious differences.

I refer to the article on the back page of The PUNCH, Thursday, January 8, 2015 by Abimbola Adelakun.
The office of the First Lady is not constitutional. It was the former dictator, Ibrahim Babangida, who created the office. If Buhari is not exposing the wife to politics, that does not mean women will not be recognised.
Please, don’t make a mountain out of a molehill.

Lamido’s boycott of Jonathan’s campaign worries Presidency

Jigawa State Governor, Alh. Sule Lamido
The Presidency is worried over the attitude of Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido to the campaign of President Goodluck Jonathan, The Rev4mation's World has learnt.

Lamido, who was said to have been interested in contesting the party’s presidential primary, was among those allegedly forced to forgo their ambition because of the adoption of President Jonathan as the party’s sole candidate.
A lady, Prof. Akasoba Duke-Abiola, who defied the party’s endorsement of Jonathan and paid for its expression of interest form, was denied the form and could not participate in the party’s presidential primary.
Since then, Lamido is being seen as not committed to the Jonathan’s 2015 project.

The governor had at the different occasions complained about the refusal of the President to keep to the promises he made to the people of his state in 2011.
He had also vowed that keeping to such promises would determine if he and the people of the state would vote for Jonathan during the February 14 presidential election.

Though the President and the PDP had named him as the North-West presidential campaign co-ordinator, Lamido was absent when the President inaugurated the campaign committee in Abuja on Tuesday.

Lamido also refused to attend the flag-off of his party’s presidential campaign in Lagos on Thursday.

Apart from that, the PDP governorship candidate in Jigawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Ringim, was also not at the event to collect the party’s flag from the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.
Ringim was the chief of staff to Lamido. He resigned from the position to contest the party’s governorship primary.

A Presidency official said that Lamido only busy campaigning for Ringim as his successor.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “He (Lamido) has not told us why he refused to be at the rallies. Rather, he’s busy campaigning for his candidate.
“Though that is also alright, but we expected him to also identify with the President in the state and the zone, where he is the coordinator.”
A member of the National Working Committee of the PDP, who also spoke on the issue, said that the governor was under watch.
But the National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, defended the governor’s refusal to attend the rallies.

He said the governor had been busy campaigning for the President in his zone, adding that the party had no doubt that the governor would deliver the state and the zone to the PDP.

“We are happy with the governor. We also knew why he and our party’s candidate could not make it to Lagos for the rally. It was because the programme was an impromptu one. It was due to communication gap. But we are saying that he is working for us in the state,” Oladipo said.

Jonathan visits Obasanjo today

 Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo
Barring any last minute change in plan, President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday (today), visit former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his Abeokuta, Ogun State residence.

The meeting will come less than 48hours after Obasanjo made a surprise appearance at the wedding service of Jonathan’s foster daughter, Inebharapu, at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
Obasanjo and Jonathan have not been seen together in public events lately, especially since the public presentation of his book, My Watch, which is critical of the President among others.

The former President had last Monday said Nigeria was facing economic problems due to the failure of the present administration to plan for a rainy day.

He told eminent women leaders from the South-West, who visited him at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, that the nation’s reserves which as of 2007 stood at $67bn had been depleted by the Federal Government.
Our correspondent learnton Sunday that Jonathan would use the opportunity of his visit to Abeokuta for his campaign rally to visit Obasanjo who had withdrawn from active participation in the activities of the Peoples Democratic Party.

A top government official who is aware of the arrangement told Rev4mation's World that Jonathan had been scheduled to visit the former president.

He however said he did not have the details of whether the meeting would hold before the rally or after.
“I don’t have the details, but I can inform you authoritatively that the two of them are scheduled to meet tomorrow,” he said.

Jonathan may use the opportunity of the meeting to appeal to Obasanjo to have a rethink on his (Jonathan’s) bid for re-election in February.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation has called on the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to caution his supporters in order to promote a peaceful election.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, made the call in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja against the backdrop of the violence unleashed on President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign buses at Zololo Junction along Bauchi Road in Jos North North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday.
